The Meningiomas of the Lesser Wing of the Sphenoid

چکیده
Diagnostically as well as therapeutically, meningiomas of the so-called sphenoidal ridge present several difficulties. We therefore make a few remarks concerning the diagnostic aspects of this problem. In another paper we hope to deal with the operative treatment. In a female patient recently seen, after long deliberation, we established a diagnosis of a meningioma of the innermost part of the sphenoidal ridge. This sphenoidal ridge can be divided into three almost equal parts, namely, the inner or clinoidal part, the middle or alary part and the outer or pterional part. In our case we had to deal with an affection having its seat in the inner or clinoidal part. The case was in a Chinese woman, 46 years old, who, a year ago, came to the ophthalmologist with complaints regarding the left eye; the vision was at that time 1/6. She returned a year later with vision 1/60. There existed then on the left side a retrobulbar neuritis with

Hyperostosis in meningiomas: MR findings in patients with recurrent meningioma of the sphenoid wings.
PURPOSE We used MR imaging to analyze retrospectively the pattern of hyperostosis occurring concomitantly with recurrent sphenoid wing meningiomas. METHODS Bone involvement was compared in 12 corresponding CT and MR studies of 10 female patients with sphenoid wing meningiomas recurrence after earlier surgical treatment. Four of these had histologically confirmed meningiomatous infiltration of...

Background: Giant cell tumor is a benign but locally aggressive bone neoplasm which uncommonly involves the skull. Giant cell tumor (GCT) of the sphenoid bone is relatively rare. In this report, we describe a tumor of the greater wing of left sphenoid bone. Case presentation: A 31-year-old female was presented with headache, proptosis and diplopia of her left eye. Cranial magnetic resonance ima...
متن کاملReconstruction after resection of sphenoid wing meningiomas.
OBJECTIVE To review our experience of reconstructing the lateral and superior orbital walls after resection of sphenoid wing meningiomas. We will review the presentation and complications, examine the aesthetic results postoperatively, and compare preoperative and postoperative computed tomographic scans. To our knowledge, a comparative analysis of preoperative defect and postoperative reconstr...

OBJECTIVE Scintigraphy with a radiolabeled somatostatin analog ((111)In-diethylenetriaminepenta-acetic acid octreotide) detects the somatostatin receptors that are found in vitro in all meningiomas. Previous studies have proved the benefit of radioimmunoguided surgery, with a hand-held gamma probe, for the assessment and removal of neuroendocrine tumors. We conducted a study to determine whethe...

OBJECTIVE To study microsurgical technique and prognostic factors influencing clinical outcomes in a series of 53 patients with sphenoid wing meningiomas (SWMs). MATERIALS AND METHODS The clinical materials of 53 patients with sphenoid wing meningiomas treated microsurgically between January 2008 and January 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. Follow-up period ranged from 6 to 62 months (medi...

Background: En plaque sphenoid wing meningioma is morphological unique in comparison with other intracranial meningiomas, characterized by a carpet-like usually small soft tissue component which invade the dura and extensively involve the bone specially the sphenoid wing and orbit causing significant hyperostosis. Patients & Methods: A retrospective analysis of the clinical data, neuro-radiolog...
